Football Season Is Over
The Eagles had a big win, it was a short week in terms of running and I unveil the next Monday Motivation Hero!

The Long Road To Glory
In 2017, researchers were amazed when a local little eagle fitted with a GPS travelled more than 3,000 kilometres from a nest here in the ACT to a small town in the Northern Territory. The eagle was tracked flying 500 kilometres in one day and reaching a maximum speed of 55 kilometres per hour. It was an incredible journey for a bird that is one-quarter of the size of a wedge-tailed eagle and one of the smallest eagles in the world. Sadly, over the last 30 years it is thought to have undergone a population decline, and the species is listed as threatened in both NSW and the ACT. It’s unclear what the reason was behind the trip the eagle took to warmer climate, but sometimes it’s a change that can do you good, and maybe in this case the bird was simply seeking something different.
I made that change when I joined the Murrumbateman Eagles at the start of the 2019 season. I still remember where I was when President Andy Ingold called me for the first time, the vision was sold and a four year journey to a premiership began.
I can’t explain how good the feeling was to finally achieve the goal of winning a premiership. Early on in the game I landed straight with not much bend in either knee driving searing pain through both of them just 10 minutes into the contest. Some strapping and cream managed to hold it at bay, and in a see-sawing contest of defining moments we were able to get over the top of our arch rivals Yass by 20 points. When you win a premiership it creates a life long bond with those you have tasted the success with, and I’m very much looking forward to celebrating this win in the years to come.
Training For The Week
Monday: 6km morning on the Kingston Foreshore at an easy tempo, 9.6km in the evening with Lizzy in Mulligan’s Flat on the trails with some efforts thrown in.
Tuesday: Football training 4.38km, easy.
Wednesday: 6km in the evening on the Kingston Foreshore, threshold tempo.
Thursday: Intervals with Elevate followed by an easy effort to the top of Red Hill and then football training in the evening.
Friday: Easy 6km with a surge 400m effort at the end to finish off the football preparation.
Saturday: Football into beers
Sunday: Beers
An Easy 45.4km week with 488 metres of elevation. A bit of a down week just trying to stay healthy for football, but now the season is done will try and ramp this up. Highlight of my week was that every single kilometre was run with another person.
Motivation Monday Hero
I don’t remember the first time I met Jess Peil.
Jess is an incredible athlete, a wonder woman of sorts who I run with at Running For Resilience and as part of my Elevate Red Hill sessions. To describe Jess’ efforts in running is absolutely mind boggling. If you’ve ever run a marathon you’ll know how hard it is. Jess recently ran seven of them, in seven days, across seven different states and territories in Australia back-to-back. It’s all to raise money for Bravehearts a non-profit organisation solely dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse. To add to Jess’ incredible running ability she is an amazing human who is incredibly giving, and one of the nicest people you’ll ever come across. Below is the time she absolutely pushed the button and Singhy and I were left behind! Here’s to the week legends.
Not sure the fittest AFL star would call a 45km week a “down week” lol. Congrats on the 🏆 mate and well done to Jess for everything she’s doing!
