I think there is also a level of trust. We see people who have supposedly taken a product or done a diet and think we can do it. When the reality is that's not the case or it will take longer. We perhaps put too much faith into things when we are vulnerable without doing proper research and get repeatedly burned. But it's come a long way in recent times.

Id rather be strong and healthy than skinny. For some reason health is defined by appearance and it is assumed thin people are healthier.

Im not sure people let it happen but more it affects people more when they are most vulnerable hence increasing the vulnerability and insecurity?
